The library of Tartu University will open its doors on Wednesday after the long and scandalous reconstruction. We checked out what happens inside.
Only the first part is ready at the moment - the common reading room, the lobby, the cafe, the conference center and some smaller rooms. The reading rooms of the third floor are sill under reconstruction. It must end in January of 2019, but hopefully anything will be ready sooner.
There are many new opportunities in the library. For example, books' rent and return machines, family rooms etc. The wardrobe is in self service now. The cafe is already open. You can get there from inside and outside of the library.
The square in front of the library is also ready. But the builder must do some works again. For example, several concrete plates were installed wrongly and are spoiled because of that.

Let us remind you, that renovation works of the library of Tartu University has started in May 2016. YIT Ehitus has won the tender and had to finish the works in October of 2016. But reconstruction started to drag on and Tartu University finished the contract in January of 2017. The new tender was won by Ehitustrust and Tallinna Ehitustrust. Reconstruction must end in January 2019.
